PROFESSIONAL BIOGRAPHY

Kevin Chavanne

Venture investment, founder advisory and startup ecosystem development.

Kevin Chavanne is an investor, strategic advisor and startup ecosystem professional based in Tallinn, Estonia. He leads startup ecosystem development at Startup Estonia, is the founder of Collektiv Club and serves as a Venture Partner at Tenity.[1][2][5]

His work connects three parts of the startup economy: how investors allocate capital, how founders build businesses that can attract it, and how institutions create the conditions for those companies to grow. Alongside his institutional and venture roles, he advises founders and leadership teams on business models, growth strategy, fundraising and investment readiness.

Kevin began his investment career at Funderbeam in 2015, progressing from analysis and regional development to investment team leadership. He subsequently worked at Blast Club and led Nordic and Baltic venture activity at Tenity, where he also ran an accelerator between 2023 and 2025. His professional experience includes work in Estonia, Denmark and Spain, as well as founder programmes across the Balkans, Armenia and Uzbekistan.[1][10][11][12]

He describes the central purpose of his advisory practice as turning business cases into investment cases: connecting a company's commercial reality to an investment argument that can withstand scrutiny.

Current responsibilities

Startup Estonia

Head of Startup Ecosystem Development / Since September 2026

At Startup Estonia, Kevin leads work on ecosystem development, access to capital and international partnerships. His remit supports Estonia's startup and innovation priorities in the context of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications' economic growth agenda.[1][2][3][4]

The work brings together founders, venture funds, limited partners, international corporates, universities and government stakeholders. Its focus is the practical infrastructure around company growth: financing pathways, deep-tech commercialisation, corporate relationships and access to international customers.

His responsibilities include shaping initiatives and partnerships around venture fund formation, corporate pilots and procurement, and translating ecosystem needs into programmes with commercial and economic objectives.

Collektiv Club and Tenity

Kevin founded Collektiv Club in 2025 as an investor community built around startup opportunities, shared learning and access to founders. Its approach brings commercial expertise and hands-on support alongside capital, connecting the investment conversation with the operating challenges of early-stage companies.[1][8]

Since October 2025, he has remained involved with Tenity as a Venture Partner, following his Investment Manager role. His professional record also includes involvement in the Estonian Business Angels Network through Tenity, with a focus on early-stage fintech, insurtech and sustainability in the Baltics and Nordics.[1][5]

Investment career

Funderbeam: analysis to investment leadership (2015-2023)

Kevin joined Funderbeam as an analyst in 2015. The platform combined private-company fundraising with infrastructure for secondary trading, placing company evaluation alongside the practical work of bringing investors and founders into a transaction.[1][6]

His early responsibilities covered startup scouting, dealflow, investment evaluation and regional development. Work in Tallinn, Barcelona and Copenhagen developed into cross-border company analysis, due diligence, investment memoranda and Nordic business development. Working across Estonia, Spain and Denmark also established a network of founders, investors and partners across those markets.

He became Funding Manager in 2021 and Lead Investment Manager in 2022. The later roles combined fundraising and investment offers with team leadership, portfolio oversight, founder support and investor relations, including coordination with legal, compliance and finance teams. His work at Funderbeam continued until January 2023.[1]

Blast Club (2023)

As an Investment Manager at Blast Club from January to April 2023, Kevin worked alongside Anthony Bourbon, the French entrepreneur behind Feed and a founder of the startup investment club. His responsibilities included investment analysis, presentations to the investment committee, due diligence, founder coaching and negotiations.[1][7]

Tenity: venture investment and accelerator delivery (2023-2025)

Kevin joined Tenity as an Investment Manager in August 2023. He spearheaded venture capital activity in the Nordics and Baltics and ran an accelerator from 2023 to 2025, combining investment selection with hands-on founder development. In its October 2023 announcement of Tenity's membership, the Estonian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association listed him as Venture Lead for the Nordics and Baltics.[1][10]

This dual responsibility connected two perspectives that inform his subsequent advisory work: deciding whether an investment case is credible, and helping a founder understand what needs to change before it becomes credible. In October 2025, he transitioned to the Venture Partner role.[1][5]

Advisory & investment approach

Kevin's independent advisory practice centres on the relationship between a company's business model and its financing strategy. The work goes beyond presentation materials to examine who buys the product, how revenue can grow, which assumptions still require evidence and what a new round of capital should make possible.

A recurring theme is the distinction between a compelling pitch and a defensible investment case. A founder may create interest in a meeting, but the opportunity must also be explainable inside a fund: through its market, commercial evidence, risks, ownership and potential return. Kevin's approach asks what an investor would need to understand and defend after the founder leaves the room.

Engagements cover capital strategy, milestone design, fundraising preparation, due diligence readiness and ongoing strategic support for CEOs and leadership teams. They can also include board narratives, investment committee preparation and the commercial position ahead of negotiations. The starting point is the decision facing the company, including whether venture capital is the appropriate financing route.

His cross-border experience adds a further consideration: whether a company's story and evidence remain understandable outside its home market. That is relevant both to founders seeking international capital and to programmes preparing companies for a wider investor audience.

Startup advisory: scope and engagements

Workshops & founder development

International founder programmes

Kevin works with accelerators, founder communities and entrepreneurship programmes on investment readiness. His client and programme work includes Swiss EP across the Balkans, Plug and Play Armenia, Garage48 and Startup Albania. Assignments include fundraising workshops, individual mentoring and company-specific feedback.

Swiss EP's account of Plug and Play's first Tirana cohort names Kevin among the experts supporting the 2025 programme, whose expert contributions included talks, workshops and one-to-one mentoring. His teaching also extends to Central Asia: StartupBase documents his Understanding Venture Capital workshop at the launch of Plug and Play Uzbekistan's sixth cohort, focused on helping founders assess their businesses from an investor's perspective.[11][12]

Fundable: understanding the investor's logic

He developed Fundable, an interactive workshop that introduces venture capital from the investor's perspective. It begins with the structure of a fund: limited partners, investment teams, portfolio construction, the power law and the time available to generate returns. Founders then work backwards from those constraints to the scale of revenue, customer base and market a company would need.

The curriculum connects fund mathematics with the practical investment process, including dealflow, outreach and the first investor conversation. Its purpose is to help founders understand the reasoning behind investor questions and apply that reasoning to their own businesses. Delivery ranges from introductory sessions to applied investment-case workshops, cohort sprints and office hours.

Entrepreneurship & applied AI

Ugly Baby

Kevin founded Ugly Baby in December 2025 to translate venture capital workflows into a founder-facing investor-readiness product. The platform is built around using company materials to develop investment memos, due diligence reviews and fundraising roadmaps. It extends a theme from his advisory work: making the investor's internal assessment more understandable to founders.[1][9]

Applied AI and knowledge systems

Alongside the product, he develops AI-assisted research and knowledge-management workflows. His personal second brain connects a structured file and Obsidian knowledge base with AI assistants, bounded tasks and review processes. Sources, decisions and reviewed outputs are retained so later work can build on previous work rather than start again in a new conversation.

The methodology starts with a defined decision, relevant context and explicit output requirements. Tasks are divided where useful, claims are checked against source material, and reviewed findings return to a durable knowledge base. Straightforward automation is used where rules are sufficient; judgement, confidential relationships and consequential decisions remain with people.

His own website and Fundable presentation also serve as working examples of this building practice: interactive, retro-computing interfaces developed to make professional information and investor education usable in a different form.

Education

Kevin studied business administration and governance at the University of Tartu. His academic background combines the economics and management of organisations with the study of institutions and public decision-making.[1]

2016 - 2018
University of Tartu / Johann Skytte InstituteMaster's Degree, Democracy & Governance
2017
University of OxfordCyberspace and the State / Cyberdefense Crisis Management training (non-degree)
2012 - 2016
University of TartuBachelor of Business Administration

The Oxford programme is professional training, not an Oxford degree.

Research into digital government

His 2018 master's thesis examined digital public services in French metropolitan areas. He developed a framework for assessing government web portals and explored their relationship with selected socioeconomic indicators. The research sits at the intersection of technology, public institutions and economic development; it was exploratory, rather than proof that digital services alone produce economic growth.[13]

Writing & perspectives

Kevin writes about investment decision-making, the evidence behind fundraising narratives and the institutional environment in which startups operate. His essays explore how reputation influences early-stage investment, why the internal investment case matters more than the pitch alone, and how company infrastructure shapes the founder experience.

Speaking & media

The Startup Blender

Kevin was the guest on episode 52 of The Startup Blender, published in May 2024. The interview introduces his work at Tenity through the subject of supporting early-stage fintech founders, offering an audio counterpart to his written work on investment and founder development.[14]

Cross-border entrepreneurship

Estonia's e-Residency programme lists Kevin as a speaker for Startup sans frontieres at Le Village by CA in Paris, an event focused on building companies across European borders and beyond. The programme brings his venture and founder roles into a wider discussion of international entrepreneurship.[15]
